The Rise And Fall Of WWECW

2006-2010

As announced on last night's ECW program (and previously announced here on Cenanuff), the Tuesday night television show known as ECW will soon be rebranded -- specifically, in 3 weeks. The final ECW taping will be held on February 22 in Milwaukee (which is Algonquin for "the good land"), and in its place the following week will be WWE NXT, a "brand new, innovative, never-before-seen program" as Mr. Mac-mahon put it. No word yet on a specific format, or whether the wrestlers on the roster will change.

Thank you, Vince, for finally putting this whole "ECW brand" thing to rest. It was great for a nostalgia trip, it became one of the brightest spots in the entire WWE landscape where new stars are *gasp* actually allowed to shine, and old kooky vets like Goldust and Hurricane were given new life, but those 3 letters are something truly special in the annals of this industry and I, for one, am glad to see them finally being removed from WWE.
