*Breaking News* WWE Releases Shane "Hurricane" Helms

WWE has released Smackdown Superstar Shane Helms today. Helms joined WWE after WCW folded, during the WCW Invasion storyline making him the last of very few (some say the VERY last, but I think Rey and Chavo came in during the WCW invasion too) remaining from the WCW invasion angle.

There are no dependable reports about why Helms was released. He has not been used since his arrest in Kentucky with Chris Jericho in early January, and he has been plagued with neck injuries in recent years.

It is purely speculation, there are no reports to back up this claim, and I am not at all saying this is absolute truth. However, one astute reader pointed out that Helms had a controlled substance, Soma, with him during his arrest. He was asked to provide a prescription for the drug, and there are no reports to indicate whether he did or not. If he did not, this would have been his second strike under WWE's Wellness Policy - under which you must enroll in rehab after your second offense, or face termination.

Paul Burchill was also released from his WWE today.

While part of me is sad about this, there's another part that knew as soon as ECW was folding that he'd have no place on either other brand and has just been waiting for the news. That part of me is salivating at the idea of him in TNA, and maybe hopefully (if Jeff gets off) actually being used in a stable/program with Shannon and Jeff like they always should have been!
