NXT is Hardcore

So WWE gave us a reason to watch Superstars for the first time in... maybe ever, last night. The debut of the logo for the "innovative, exciting, fresh," NXT show.

Am I alone in thinking this just smacks of "trying too hard?" For one, it looks just like a vertical version of the original TNA logo. And secondly, ironically, with the dropping of the ECW name, it almost looks like they're trying to get back to those original ECW roots with something that looks all gritty and edgy. But here's the problem: you can't manufacture grit and edge. You can't manufacture "new" nostalgia. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a huge nostalgia mark, but you can't recapture lightning in a bottle if it doesn't want to be captured. That's why "The Band" in TNA is falling on its face. I may decry that nothing today feels as awesome and real as it did back in the 90's, but that's because our world doesn't feel like it did in the 90's. It's an era that's gone, and you can't look to the past to create the future.

The also ironic thing about it is that this show is apparently aimed at creating those new high profile stars... which is exactly the purpose ECW has served for the last 2 years. I suppose we'll have to wait till the show debuts before we can pass judgment on it, but judging from the logo? Take it away, Mr. Horse.

To be honest. The logo reminds me a lot of the Ohio Valley Wrestling logo.
